14th NLABC: Forging Strategic Business and Development Opportunities In Cagayan Valley and North Luzon
The different local chambers of commerce and industry in the North held the 14th North Luzon Area Business Conference in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan last June 24 26,2005. The business event was held in time with the Pagayaya 2005 Festival.
The Guest of Honor was no less than Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, a true son of Cagayan Province. Luminaries during the event included the local government executives from North Luzon led by Cagayan Province Governor Edgar Lara. Ceremonial lighting of torches and flying of event balloons paved for the festive event of the business event. The first day, June 24 was marked with discussion sessions and presentations. Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani discussed the 'Prospect of the Dairy Industry in the North', Dr. Raul Hernandez presented PCCI's PROPEL Development project. Mr. William Co shared opportunities in Agriculture in China, while Dr. Arthur Sajid spoke on reforms in the private sector.
Humid fresh air engulfed the Provincial Quadrangle during the night, as it was full of delegates from PCC1 North Luzon, who intently watched the different cultural presentations of the Provinces of Cagayan, Nueva Viscaya, and Batanes.
The second day showcased prospects of the Cagayan Valley region in organically-grown foods. The Conference Resolutions were also adopted later in the day. This year's conference was ably hosted by the Cagayan Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry. PCCI Vice-President Rene Simbulan acknowledged the presence of delegates from Bulacan, which included Pres. Violy Luna, VP Cora Ledesma, VP Tony Tengco and VP Ferdie Capili. A side-trip to Cagayan Province is a pilgrimage to the miraculous Shrine of Our Lady of Piat. It takes 10 hours trip to reach Tuguegarao, but the trip was very enjoyable and productive. There is indeed a lot to learn about our country.
